Priti Shah Soni

Priti Shah Soni is the Founder and General Secretary of "Deaf Can Foundation" (DCF), Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and an Executive Member of "National Association of Deaf" (NAD), India. She is well known in the Deaf community for her active work in the empowerment of deaf especially deaf women and her sign language videos for spreading awareness on her YouTube Channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC830RiHvLxste0LDCqM5SVA/videos).


She was born and brought up in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She was raised in a deaf family i.e. both her parents and her sister were deaf.  She completed her education from Indore Deaf Bilingual Academy (IDBA) run by Mook Badhir Sangathan (MKS). She pursued her higher education and post-graduation from Barkatullah University, MP. Then, she went to Deaf Enabled Foundation (DEF) in Hyderabad, India to attend a 3 month training in management. She also worked at the ‘Bhopal Deaf Association’ to understand more about organization structure.

Meanwhile in 2010, she participated in a beauty pageant conducted for the deaf women in which she was the 1st Runner Up and got the opportunity to represent India on an international scale at the beauty pageant held at Chicago. In 2011, she established her own organisation which is now known as ‘Deaf Can Foundation’.  DCF imparts free education to deaf students using Sign Language as a medium of education. They provide Sign Language interpretation services to facilitate access between the deaf community and the outside world.  Besides being an ardent advocate for Sign Language and accessible information for the deaf, she also works to help young deaf people develop English skills, communication skills, computer skills, provides training in leadership and personality development etc and also matrimonial services. She started with the concept of ‘India Deaf Can TV’ in 2014 to showcase both educational as well as entertainment sign language material for the deaf.

She was awarded "Women of the year", 2012 for her immense contributions in the field of 'Empowerment of Deaf Women' by a leading newspaper in India. She has been delivering sessions in different cities of India to address the issues related to the issues of deaf women empowerment, youth and social service. In 2014, she received an ‘Achievement Award’ by her own school i.e. IDBA. She is also recipient of the 6th NCPEDP-Mphasis Universal Design Awards, 2015.

Priti is full of enthusiasm and energy, and she is deeply passionate about her work. She is a true power house on stage, and despite the barriers she has faced, she has always emerged positive and smiling.

Manan Shah

Manan Shah (Manan Rameshbhai Shah) is a charismatic youth leader from Gujarat and an experienced International Sign (IS) Interpreter . He was one of the very few deaf youth leaders from India who have done the coveted ' Frontrunners ' training program on 'International Deaf Youth Leadership' from Denmark in 2011. He has so far travelled to 12 countries, participated in various youth camps, conferences and done multiple freelance assignments. He is part of a unique initiative as Course Facilitator and Manager, Orjet Foundation, Ahmedabad teaching Indian Sign Language (ISL) online to the young deaf kids (age 2.5 to 10 years) of deaf parents. Abigail Beilfuss

Abigail Beilfuss is a free-spirited traveler , a deaf interpreter , who knows multiple sign languages - Indian Sign Language (ISL), American Sign Language (ASL), British Sign Language (BSL), German Sign Language (DGS), French Sign Language (LSF) and International Sign (IS). She is an independent single mother. She is the General Secretary (Woman), Goa Association of the Deaf and  Vice-President of the newly established National Youth Association of Deaf (NYAD) , India. She is fascinated by the power of sign languages in transforming deaf lives, giving an identity, sense of self-confidence and a way to express the most complex of the ideas and feelings with ease. Abigail was born in Calcutta , India and spent most of her childhood in Delhi, India. She became deaf due to meningitis when she was 6 months old. Initially, she was put for the speech therapy, better known as the ‘ Oralism ’ approach.  But she found it dull, and highly inadequate. She was introduced to the world of sig
